Contest

Update: August 22nd, 2010

Update August 20, 2010: The contest has closed. See the results here.

Mission
• The Feed a Starving Young Canadian Composer Award was designed to promote and encourage the talents of our youths.
• Canadians are great musicians and deserve to be heard! As such, this composition competition rewards the composer with the best piece (regardless of financial standing, despite the title).

Eligibility/Rules
• This contest is only open to Canadian residents who are between the ages of 13 to 18 by the deadline date.
• You do not need to pay a fee to enter.
• Absolutely no plagiarizing.
• There is a maximum of one entry per participant. You must be the sole composer. Band pieces are acceptable only if you’ve written all the parts by yourself.
• Do not break any copyright laws. For instance, if you use lyrics that are not in the public domain, then you’ll need permission from the author.
• Your piece must be completely new and not recycled from a previous work (i.e. your entry must be composed for the sole purpose of this competition).
• Give it your best shot!

Prize
• The award amount is dependent on how much money I can personally contribute and on how many donations I have received. Since this is all non-profit and 100% of your donations will go toward the winner, it is in your best interest to help spread the word about this contest. Even if it’s just a few cents, every little bit helps. So please tell everybody you know about the shiny ‘donate’ button on the right-hand panel (don’t worry, PayPal is safe and secure).
• Please donate now before the end of the contest so that the prize will be ready for the winner. However, any contributions that are received after the deadline will be collected for next year’s contest. Unfortunately, donations are not tax-deductible.
• If you’ve donated, thank you so much!
• Donors who wish to be publicly acknowledged on my site should contact me by e-mail.
• You must possess your own PayPal account in order to claim your prize should you win. But I guarantee that I will not share your account information with anybody (this also applies to all donors).

Important
• You must submit your entry here. Posting it anywhere else on this website will result in its deletion.
• Your privacy is important to me. As such, I am not interested in collecting any personal data like your birthday, address, etc. However, this website uses your standard cookies due to the ads.
• Please do not e-mail me questions or comments about the actual contest itself. Instead, post them here.

Your guess is as good as mine. I suppose it depends on the number of people who are aware of this contest. So far you’re the only one I know who’s interested.

Sigh… if only I was a few years younger.

I Googled “Canada composition contest” and this page was near the top.

Does anyone know of any other composition contests that someone over 18 could be eligible for?

    Thanks in advance.

You might be able to find some if you go here. But you’d have to do a lot of reading.
