Juno Awards 2009

Recently, I’ve decided that I’d like to win a Juno Award. For those of you who don’t know, it’s the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys. The ceremony is on tonight, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time to watch it. Now I know that the odds of me winning are infinitesimal, but it will be my life’s goal. I don’t mind if I win at the age of 81 (my predicted life-span, according to my girlfriend), because it’ll still be a great and satisfying feeling (in fact, I bet that this feeling would be enhanced simply by virtue of how long I had to wait). However, I have to say that winning an award isn’t the most important thing to me. But it’d still be nice! What I mean is, as long as I’m proud of my own accomplishments, that should be enough. Winning a Juno would make it the cherry and fudge on top of my vanilla ice cream.

Besides, they give out gift bags! You can’t really argue with freebies. Or can you? Let’s see what they’re giving out this year:

  • SOOS jewelry (not for me)
  • yoga classes and massages (I’m up for that)
  • Timothy’s World coffee maker voucher (no way!)
  • three books (that’s the best gift on the list)
  • and etc.

Wait a minute, I’d have to be a host, performer, or presenter to get a gift bag? Oh darn.

Anyways, I have a lot of work to do if I’m going to achieve my wish. Mostly, I’ll have to compose a whole lot of music and also make it well-known. Easier said than done, I know. I probably only have a shot at the following categories:

  • Instrumental Album of the Year
  • Children’s Album of the Year (yes, I might actually write something just for kids)
  • Classical Album of the Year
  • Classical Composition of the Year
  • I guess I’ll have to get cracking on my secret composition project . . oh look, there’s a section on how some of the nominees write their music. Check it out, it’s a bit insightful.

On a side note this year, the show will be hosted by Russell Peters, who I think is a hilarious Canadian comedian. They’ve made a great choice in obtaining his talents. Hmm, wikipedia says that he hosted it last year, boy am I out of the loop. Anyways, he grew up in my home town, so he’s cool in my book!

“He grew up in my home town, so he’s cool in my book”

This implies that anyone who grew up in your home town is cool in your book. This means I am cool to you. I win.

No, that doesn’t mean anybody who grew up there is cool. I guess I should have clarified: he grew up in my home town, which I also find cool!
